| Note | Mary Ann was born in 1852 at Darley (SA) in the hills east of Adelaide (SA). Her birth registration is the first known evidence of her parents being together as no marriage documentation has been found. Mary Ann would have been around 16 years of age in the late 1860's, when her family left their home in the Adelaide hills and resettled in the area to the south of the Adelaide township. In 1871, Mary Ann was married to John LANGEVIN in the registry office in Adelaide. She was 18 years old at that time and John was 36 years of age. John is believed to have been a widower with four children at the time he married Mary Ann. Only two of his children have been identified. They were John and Albert, who would have been around 2 years, and 6 months old, respectively. In early 1872, about nine months after their marriage, Mary Ann died in Adelaide. She was just 19 years old. Little more is known of John LANGEVIN or his family. It appears that his son John may have later been known as John Charles Langevin SMITH. A man of this name had a son named Leonard Langevin SMITH in Adelaide in 1899. |
