Henry Penrose ROWNEY (No. 4765) served in the AIF during the Great War. At the time of his enlistment he was described as 5'6" with brown hair, brown eyes, and a fresh complexion. He enlisted in Melbourne (Vic) on 8 Jan 1916 and served with the 24th Battalion AIF. Harry sailed from Melbourne aboard the HMAT "Euripides" for overseas service on 4 Apr 1916. He joined his battalion in France on 31 Oct 1916. Harry was wounded in action on 3 May 1917, receiving a gun-shot wound to the lower left thigh. After hospitalisation in France and England, Harry was returned to Australia, arriving home aboard the HT "Runic" on 20 Dec 1917.
