Note | Emmie was born in 1894. Her birth was registered at Galaquil East (Vic). Her father died in 1899 when she was just 4 years of age. A group photo taken around Christmas 1909 which includes the family of her uncle Paddy ROWNEY also includes a girl who looks very much like Emmie, who was believed to have come along with Paddy's family. It is not known whether her presence in the photo (if correctly identified) might indicate a role played by Paddy and Sis ROWNEY in Emmie's upbringing after her father's death. In 1915, Emmie married Clem POULTON from Hopetoun West (Vic). Emmie was 21 years old and Clem was 29 years of age when they married. Clem was recorded as a farmer at Hopetoun West in the 1912 electoral roll. They were married at the Baptist Church at Hopetoun West. They continued farming and raising their family at Hopetoun. Clem was an organist for the Baptist Church at Hopetoun for over 50 years. In 1945, when their son Gordon was killed in the Second World War, Clem and Emmie were living on Evelyn Street, in Hopetoun. Clem died at Hopetoun in 1960 at the age of 73. He was buried in the Hopetoun Cemetery. Emmie died at Hopetoun in 1989 at the age of 94. She was buried with Clem at Hopetoun. |
