Note | Arthur was born at Hopetoun (Vic) in 1908. He married Alice JAMIESON in 1932, when he was around 24 years of age. Arthur and Alice seem to have settled in suburban Melbourne (Vic), but the timing of their move has not yet been established. The places of birth of their children are not known. Their son Alan was born in 1933, and he was followed by Ken, in 1935, Graeme in 1941, and Lorraine in September 1942. Lorraine was born just days before Arthur enlisted for service in the Second World War. The exact timing of the births of their remaining three children, Arthur, Betty, and Valerie, is unclear. They were possibly born after the war. Arthur served in the Army during the war (No. V502383). He enlisted on 6 Oct 1942 at Royal Park (Vic), in Melbourne, when he was 34 years old. His place of residence at that time was given as Cranbourne (Vic). He was discharged from the Army on 17 May 1948 with the rank of Private. He was serving with the HQ Southern Command at that time. His final posting was probably in Melbourne, and it is unclear whether he was away from home for significant lengths of time during his service. Alice would have had her hands full managing their young family alone on those occasions. Alice died in Dandenong (Vic) in 1982 and was buried at the cemetery in Springvale (Vic). Arthur appears to have died some years later, and was also buried at Springvale. |
