Note | May was born in 1883 in the suburb of Plympton (SA), in Adelaide (SA). Her family moved from South Australia to Victoria in 1888. They settled in the Melbourne (Vic)suburb of Caulfield (Vic), where her father was a tram driver. After their marriage in 1915, May and Francis continued to live and raised their family in Caulfield. They lived in the same street as two of May's siblings and her elderly mother. Francis and May's daughter, Verna, later joked that they had their own "Coronation Street" in Caulfield. May's cousin, Percy ROWNEY, also lived with them in Caulfield in his later years after he left his farm at Hopetoun (Vic). May was a long serving volunteer helping people in need around the area. Francis died at Caulfield in 1952 at the age of 64. May died there the following year, in 1953, at the age of 69. |
