Note | Polly's surname was sometimes written as FINEMORE. PERSONAL - Hopetoun Courier [17 Mar 1933] "It is with regret that we announce that the condition of Mrs. W. ROWNEY of this town, is causing her relatives and friends grave anxiety." OBITUARY - Hopetoun Courier [24 Mar 1933] "It is our sad duty to chronicle the death of an old and highly respected resident of this district who passed away on Monday last, in the person of Mrs. Walter ROWNEY. She was aged 67 years and nine months. Deceased whose maiden name was Mary Grace FINNEMORE, was born at Dalkey (SA) [sic]. She had lived at Hopetoun West for many years, then on the return of her son from the war she lived at Hopetoun East. The last few years have been spent with her niece, Miss Mabel FINNEMORE, in Hopetoun. Deceased had been a great sufferer for many years and only in close friendship knew how great the suffering had been. She was an ardent member of the Baptist Church. Her husband predeceased her 35 years ago when the family lived at Hopetoun West, and she was left with a family of four little children (one to be born). With the wonderful spirit she possessed she fought to bring up her family to which she was keenly attached. When Mrs FINNEMORE died she took and brought up Mabel FINNEMORE (aged 5 years) who has since grown to womanhood, and amply repaid her by her service and devotion. She became ill about a month ago and passed peacefully away at 11:30pm on Monday last. She leaves a family of four to mourn her loss. VIZ - - Walter Percy; Emily Grace (Mrs Clem POULTON); Ernest Henry; and Elizabeth May (Mrs L.J. AFFORD). The deepest sympathy of all is extended to all relatives. The burial took place at the Hopetoun Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon last, the cartage being a lengthy one. The service at the Baptist Church and graveside were read by Rev. T.W.F. REEVES. The coffin bearers were Messers T. and F. POULTON; J. MITCHELL; S. FINNEMORE; J. DUTTON; and R. ROWNEY. Mr A.E. PERRY carried out the mortuary arrangements. An In Memorian Service will be held in the Baptist Church at 7:30pm on Sunday next." PERSONAL - Hopetoun Courier [24 Mar 1933] "The family and relatives of the late Mrs. Walter ROWNEY desire to express their thanks and appreciation for the service rendered and for telegrams, cards, and floral tributes received in connection with their recent sad bereavement. Especially do they wish to thank Dr. LOOSLI, Sister CUMMING and staff, Rev. and Mrs. REEVES, Mr. and Mrs. COLLINS, and Miss Eva POULTON." |
