Note

Ann was believed to have been born around 1816 in the village of Wickwar, in Gloucestershire, England.

She was still living in Wickwar at the time of her marriage to Thomas POULTON in 1840. Neither of their fathers were named on their marriage register entry. This is curious, since Ann's parents and circumstances would probably have been well known to the people of Wickwar, who would have witnessed the wedding. It would seem, in that case, that at least one, of either the bride or groom, were either unable or unwilling to provide the information. The witnesses at the wedding were Elizabeth BARNARD and Charles BROWN.

Ann emigrated to South Australia with her husband Thomas and their children from England aboard the "Omega" in 1852.

Only four years after the family settled into their home in the Hindmarsh (SA) area of Adelaide (SA), Thomas died, leaving Ann to raise the family of six children alone. At that time their eldest child, daughter Elizabeth was only 13 years old, and their youngest child Thomas was not yet 2. They appear to have sought help from the South Australian Destitute Asylum after Thomas died.

Ann lived only a further 11 years herself, dying at the age of 51.
