Note | Gordon is believed to have been born in 1924 in Hopetoun (Vic). On 24 Mar 1944, during the Second World War, Gordon enlisted in the Australian Army (VX 148241) at Cunungra (Qld). He claimed to have been born in 1923 at that time. He served as a private with the 2/28 Australian Infantry Battalion in the 2nd AIF. Pte. Gordon Clement POULTON was killed in action fighting the Japanese at Brunei Bay, on the island of Borneo, on 17 Jul 1945, just weeks before the war ended. He was buried nearby in the Commonwealth War Cemetery at Labuan, in Malaysian Borneo. |
