Note | Ted resided at Bowden (SA) and Owen (SA) while he was living in the colony of South Australia. Ted was recorded in the assessment book for the District of Dalkey (SA), near Owen, in 1876/77, as the owner of section 424 in the Hundred of Dalkey, which comprised 113 acres. All of his brothers held land in the area at that time. They retained this land until around 1891, when they began to sell up and leave. Ted travelled overland to Victoria with a number of his siblings around 1892, but the assessments indicate that he maintained his ownership of his land at Dalkey until 1904/05, although he was not the occupant of the property. In 1896/97 the occupants were named as FLEMMING, BOWCO, & ASHTON. Ted and William were the last of the POULTON brothers to sell their land at Dalkey. The electoral roll for Victoria in 1899 records Ted as a farmer at Hopetoun (Vic). The electoral roll of Victoria for 1903 records that Ted was a farmer at Cambacanya (Vic) at that time. In 1909, after the death of Ted's sister's daughter-in-law, Maud FINNEMORE, Ted and Polly took in her two year-old daughter Dorrie FINNEMORE. |
