Note

Elizabeth is believed to have been born around 1699. She was baptised that year in the parish of Langford, in Bedfordshire, England, where her parents, John and Judith ROWNEY resided. She would probably have been around 12 years old when her mother died in 1712.

There was an Elizabeth ROWNEY married to a widower named David CAWDELL (or CAWDLE) in Langford on 6 Mar 1764 [OPR]. Elizabeth would have been about 65 years of age at that time if she were still living. There seem to be only two eligible men of this name in the records - one who was baptised at Langford in 1700, and one (his son) who was baptised in the nearby parish of Northill in 1735. There do not seem to have been any children from the 1764 marriage, so it is possible that it may have been this Elizabeth ROWNEY who, as an elderly spinster, married the elder David CAWDELL. Another possibility, perhaps more likely, is that it may have been the illegitimate daughter of the widow ROWNEY of Langford, who was born in 1733, who married the younger David CAWDELL in 1764.

In that case, the death of Elizabeth ROWNEY in Biggleswade in 1737 most likely would have been this Elizabeth, who would have been about 38 years old at that time and apparently unmarried. She was buried at St Andrew's Church in Biggleswade.
