Note

Mercy's name is sometimes given as Marcy. She was christened in the village of Dunton, in Bedfordshire, England, in 1702.

Mercy was married to Stephen HARPER in 1722, in the nearby village of Abington Pigotts, in Cambridgeshire. They appear to have settled there after their marriage, and had one known child, Elizabeth, who was christened there in 1724.

It would appear that Stephen died sometime over the following few years, and Mercy may have returned to Dunton where she eventually became the wife of a widower with young children named George ROWNEY around 1730. George and Mercy had a son George in 1731. Most of George's children from his previous marriage died over the next few years, and George himself also died in 1738, leaving Mercy widowed for the second time at around 36 years of age.

Mercy was remarried in 1738, very soon after George's death, to Thomas WATTS. Nothing more is really known for certain about the lives of Mercy and Thomas WATTS, but we can perhaps guess that they may have moved back to Cambridgeshire at some time, as Mercy's son George ROWNEY seems to have grown up and eventually married there around Gamlingay.
