Note

Thomas was born around 1850 in the village of Bletsoe, in Bedfordshire, England. His mother seems to have died at an early age, although the exact date has not been determined.

In the 1851 census, Thomas (aged 1) was living with his parents in the rural district of Whitwick Green, near Bletsoe, in Bedfordshire.

In the 1861 census, Thomas (aged 12) was living with his widower father and siblings at Whitwick Green. Thomas was employed as a farm hand.

Thomas has not yet been located in the 1871 and 1881 census returns for the UK.

In the 1891 census, Thomas (aged 30??) was unmarried and living in the hamlet of Monckton, in the parish of Havercroft, in Yorkshire. He was working as a labourer in a colliery. He was boarding at the home of coal miner, Joseph DUCKWORTH (aged 46), and his wife Elizabeth (aged 45). The DUCKWORTH's had three unmarried male lodgers, including Thomas. The other two were; Arthur HOWARD (aged 29) and James FORD (aged 34), who were also coal miners.

In the 1901 census, Thomas (aged 51) was unmarried and still living on Monckton Row, in Monckton. He was employed as a pit labourer below ground. He was boarding with the JEVANS family at their home on Monckton Row. The heads of the household were, James JEVANS (aged 50), who was also employed as a coal pit miner, and his wife Mary (aged 48). Their children were; Frederick (aged 14), a pit diver, Mary (aged 13) who was at home, and Brade (aged 12) and Elizabeth (aged 8), who were attending school. There was also a second boarder named Robert POWELL (aged 21) who was also a coal pit worker.
