Note

Sarah was born around 1845 in the parish of Bletsoe, in Bedfordshire, England. Her mother seems to have died at an early age, although the exact date has not yet been determined.

In the 1861 census, Sarah (aged 18) was living with her father at his home in the rural district of Whitwick Green, near Bletsoe, in Bedfordshire. She was unmarried and employed as a lacemaker.

Sarah was married to Charles WYANT in the December quarter of 1866 in the Bedford registration district. Sarah would have been around 21 years old at that time. Charles was a 22 year old agricultural labourer from the village of Riseley, in Bedfordshire. They appear to have settled in Riseley after their marriage.

Their only known child was their son, William, who was born around 1869 in Riseley.

In the 1871 census, Sarah (aged 28) and Charles (aged 29) were living at 17 Gold Street, in Riseley. Charles was employed as an agricultural labourer and Sarah was a lacemaker. Their son William (aged 2) was also present at their home. They were living just a few doors down from Charles' parents and siblings, who lived at 14 Gold Street. His father Thomas WYANT (aged 71) was described as a former agricultural labourer who was born in Riseley.

In the 1881 census, Sarah (aged 38) and Charles (aged 39) were living in Gold Street, in Riseley. Charles was employed as an agricultural labourer. William (aged 12) was at home and was attending school at that time. Also living with them was Charles' unmarried brother, Frederick (aged 30), who was employed as an agricultural labourer.

In the 1891 census, Sarah (aged 48) and Charles (aged 49) were living on Gold Street in Riseley. Charles was employed as an agricultural labourer. Their unmarried son William (aged 22) was also living with them at that time. He was employed as a blacksmith.

In the 1901 census, Sarah (aged 58) and Charles (aged 59) were still living on Gold Street in Riseley. Sarah was earning an income as a pillow lace maker working from home with her own account, and Charles was employed as an agricultural labourer.

The fates of Sarah and Charles have not yet been determined with certainty. A Sarah WYANT died in St Neots, a short distance away from Risely, in Huntingdonshire, in 1896. Her recorded age suggested she was born around 1838, so it is not known whether this might have been our Sarah.
