Note | Diana is believed to have been born in about 1853 around Bendigo (Vic), but this has not been verified. Her parents may have been on the goldfields at that time. Her family seems to have returned to South Australia around 1855 or 1856 and settled for a time in the east of Adelaide (SA) at Norwood (SA). In 1872, Diana was married to a widower named Lycurgus UNDERDOWN at his home at Mount Remarkable (SA), near the north end of the Spencer Gulf. Diana was about 20 years old at that time and Lycugus was around 38 years of age. He appears to have had two children from his previous wife, Jane, who had died around a year earlier. His children at that time were two daughters, Mary (aged 12), and Amelia (aged 8). Lycurgus was a publican and a butcher. He was also a naturalist. Diana and Lycurgus had a further six children together, who were born around Adelaide, Port Lincoln (SA), Port Augusta (SA), and Peachy Belt (SA). Lycurgus died in 1893 at the age of 59. They were living at the remote town of Oodnadatta (SA) at that time. Diana died in 1915 at the age of 62. She had returned to live in the northern Adelaide suburb of Prospect (SA) by the time of her death. |
