| Note | Thomas was born around 1804 in the village of Estcourt, in the parish of Crudwell, in Wiltshire, England. Thomas is believed to have married Sarah around 1830, although no details of their marriage are known. This date is an estimation based solely on the birthdate of their first known child. In the 1841 census, Thomas (aged 35+) and Sarah (aged 30+) were living in Estcourt. Thomas was working as an agricultural labourer. They had two children at that time; Jane (aged 7) and Mark (aged 5). In the 1861 census, Thomas (aged 57) and Sarah (aged 51) were living in the "Keeper's Cottage" in Escourt. They were both employed as agricultural labourers. Their unmarried son Mark (aged 24) was recorded in their household. He was also working as an agricultural labourer. Their daughter Elizabeth (aged 10) was also present and was attending school. In the 1871 census, Thomas (aged 66) and Sarah (aged 61) were living in a cottage in Crudwell parish. Thomas was described as a labourer. Their grand daughter Catherine POULTON (aged 4) was staying with them. Catherine was born in Tamworth in Staffordshire. Her parents have not yet been determined. Thomas died in the June quarter of 1874 in the Malmesbury registration district in Wiltshire. He was 69 years of age. In the 1881 census, Sarah (aged 71) was a widowed pauper living in Crudwell. Her grand daughter Catherine POULTON (aged 14) was still living with her and was working as a general servant. Sarah appears to have died in the September quartre of 1893 in the Malmesbury registration district. Her age was recorded as 84 years. |
