Note

William was born around 1803 in the village of Estcourt, in Wiltshire, England.

William is believed to have married Mary around 1825, although no record of their marriage has been found to date.

In the 1841 census, William (aged 40+) and Mary (aged 32) were living in the hamlet of Braydon Brook in the parish of Crudwell, in Wiltshire. William was a carpenter. They had four children at home; Giles (aged 13), George (aged 11), Abraham (aged 9), and James (aged 6).

In the 1861 census, William (aged 61) and Mary Ann (aged 55) were living on a property called "Flistridge", near Eastcourt Road, in the parish of Minety, in Wiltshire. William was described as a carpenter and a farmer of 9 acres. Mary Ann was working their farm. Their unmarried children who were at their home included their son Giles (aged 32) who was a carpenter; their daughter Eleanor (aged 20) who was working their farm; and the younger children, Fanny (aged 13), Jabez (aged 11), and Martha (aged 9), who were all attending school. All members of the household had their places of birth recorded as Minety, however this is not believed to be correct.

Mary Ann died in 1868 in the Malmesbury registration district in Wiltshire. She would have been around 60 years old at that time.

In the 1871 census, William (aged 68) was a widower living on Eastcourt Road in the parish of Minety. He was described as a carpenter. His unmarried children at home at that time included son Giles (aged 48), who was working as a carpenter, and daughter Martha (aged 17).
