Note | William was born around 1829 in the suburb of Saint Paul in the city of Bedford, in Bedfordshire, England. In the 1841 census, William (aged 11) was living with his widowed mother in the village of Riseley, a few miles north of Bedford, in Bedfordshire. He was employed as an agricultural labourer, along with his three brothers. William has not been identified in the 1851 or later census returns and his fate is not known. There was a William ROWNEY (aged 54) living at Great Gransden, in Huntingdonshire, in the 1881 census. His wife was Betsy (aged 50). He was an agricultural labourer who claimed to have been born in Great Gransden, but he may be worth investigating further as a possible candidate for the missing son of John and Hannah ROWNEY. He had a son John (aged 29) living with him at that time. |
