Note | George was born in 1770 around the village of Southill, in Bedfordshire, England. He appears to have spent his early years living in this area, until around the time of his marriage. George was married to Sarah MOORE in 1795. He was around 25 years old at that time, and Sarah was about 21 years of age. They were married in Southill, but appear to have subsequently lived in Sarah's place of birth, the village of Wilshamstead, or Wilstead, as it is often known. Their only known child, a son named John, was christened in Wilshamstead in 1798. Nothing more is really known of George and Sarah. The existence of a living child raises questions. It is possible that one or both of them may have died young, although no relevant death details have been identified as yet. If George died young, Sarah may have remarried and had other children under a different name. It may also be worth checking the later marriage of a Sarah ROWNEY at Thurleigh, in Bedfordshire, in this light, but information on the death of George ROWNEY would still be helpful. |
