Note

William was believed to have been a tailor in London when his sister Ann emirated from England in 1819. He was also said to have been married well before that time.

William is believed to have emigrated to the United States after completing his training as a tailor.

NOTE: In the 1851 census, there was a William ROWNEY (aged 57) living with his wife, Caroline (aged 57) at 49 Vale St, in the city of Birmingham, in Warwickshire, England. William was described as a wood turner. The only other person at their home was a widow named Mary HALL (aged 65) who was a lodger. All three had their places of birth recorded as Bedford, in Bedfordshire. There seems a strong possibility that this could have been the son of George and Hannah, based on William's age, place of birth, and the HALL family connection, although if so, it possibly suggests that it was William who was the cabinet maker, rather than his brother George, as recalled by their sister Ann many years later.
