They had three children; John (aged 2), Elizabeth (aged 2), and baby Nellie (aged 7 months). They also had two lodgers living at their home; Albert PETERS (aged 21) and John GATLAND (aged 17), who were both agricultural labourers. In the 1901 census, Rebecca (aged 41) and James (aged 40) were still living in Clay Hall Cottages, near Clay Hall Farm, in Reigate. James was employed as a cartman on a farm.
