Note | Lyle was born in Hopetoun (Vic) in 1927. As a young man, Lyle worked with the State Rivers, scooping channels with teams of horses. He developed a love of horses at that time which lasted a lifetime. He later worked as a farm hand, again working teams of horses on properties around the Hopetoun disrict. After marrying Betty, they bought a house in Hopetoun, and Lyle took over as barman at a local hotel, then he took up shearing for a while. Some time later he began repairing and maintaining agricultural machinery, mainly for Massey Fergusson, which he did for many years. Lyle and Betty live in Hopetoun for most of their lives. Lyle battled skin cancer for over forty years, and also survived a heart attack in the 1980's. As his illness became serious towards the end of his life, he and Betty moved down to Timboon (Vic), to be nearer his family and treatment facilities. Lyle died in 2006 at Timboon and was buried at nearby Port Campbell (Vic). |
