Note | Francis was born in the December quarter of 1875 in the village of Radwell, in Bedfordshire, England. His mother died before he was 5 years old, and he and his father, George, appear to have moved in to live with George's parents at their home in nearby Felmersham, in Bedfordshire. At the time of the 1881 census, Francis (aged 5), was living in Felmersham and attending school. Francis was married to Laura TURNER in 1897 in the Kettering registration district in Northamptonshire. In the 1901 census, Francis (aged 25) and Laura (aged 24) were living with Laura's widowed mother, Elizabeth TURNER (aged 64) at 115 Montagu Street in Kettering. Elizabeth was running a fruit shop (grocery) from her home. Francis was working as a shoe laster and Laura was employed as a shoe machinist (boot maker). |
