| Note | There was a John POLTON who was christened at Great Coxwell in Berkshire on 26 Jun 1752, with parents Thomas POLTON and Barbara. This raises some issues with respect to this family. It is possible that this was an illegitimate son of our Thomas POULTON, although it seems unusual for him to be given the same name as an existing son. It is also possible that the Thomas POULTON having children in Berkshire is another man of that name who had also previously been married to a woman named Elizabeth. It is also possible that this one child belongs to another man named Thomas POULTON, possibly a relative of this Thomas. The existence of another family of POULTONs in Berkshire complicates things considerably if it turns out to be the case. I have included the younger John POULTON as an illegitimate child in this family for the time being, so as not to lose sight of him, but I'm not convinced this is the correct solution. |
