Note

Little is known with certainty of the origins of Edward PEPPERCORN, or of his wife, Elizabeth. There was a Susan PEPPERCORN christened in the village of Great Barford, near the town of Sandy, in Bedfordshire, in 1660. Her father was named as Thomas PEPPERCORN. Since Edward also named one of his own daughters Susan, and he also lived in Sandy for a time himself, it might be a reasonable hypothesis that Thomas PEPPERCORN may very well have also been his father. A Thomas PEPPERCORN with a wife named Jane TEMPLE also later married (1679) and had several children at Goldington, in Bedfordshire, in the 1680's. There were PEPPERCORN families around Great Barford by at least the early 1600's.

No record of Edward and Elizabeth's marriage has been identified to date, and Elizabeth's maiden name has not yet been determined.

Edward and Elizabeth appear to have resided, at least for a time, in the vicinity of the town of Sandy, as they had two known children who were both christened there. Their daughter Susan was christened there around 1691, and a son named John was christened there around 1699. The large gap between these two children possibly suggests that the record is incomplete, and there may be other as yet undiscovered children.

The fates of Edward and Elizabeth are not known.
